The Carbon Literacy Project joins SID as our latest Associate, with co-founder Phil Korbel joining Tuesday’s panel offering advice on getting started in sustainability
11am 15th October “Getting started in sustainability”
Getting your organisation started on a sustainability journey can be hugely daunting, particularly if you are a small company or have limited budgets, or don’t have a separate sustainability team. We ask our panel of sustainability experts what their top tips are for getting started, and what advice they can offer, from training and education, to communications and strategy. Join us to hear practical tips that are relevant to every business, large or small.
Phil Korbel, Co-Founder, Carbon Literacy Project
Phil and the charity he co-founded are on a mission to embed Carbon Literacy as a core workplace competence and value, everywhere. Without this, he feels that the race to Net Zero will be lost.
Based in Manchester, after a career in national radio and regeneration, Phil has devoted the rest of his working life to ensuring that his daughters have ‘a future, not an apology’ by harnessing his skills to tackling the climate crisis.
Founded in 2012 the Carbon Literacy Project has certified over 100,000 learners globally. They were recognised as a globally unique initiative at the historic Paris climate summit and their prominent ‘graduates’ include both Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall and Sir Patrick Vallance.
Anne Jones, Sustainability Consultant
Anne spent two decades working in the Waitrose wine buying team, before becoming a wine sustainability consultant with her own business: Limestone & Jones. Anne’s focus is on creating value from sustainable wine production, and on ‘joining the dots’ between understanding and improving the impact of individual activities in the vineyard or in wine production while harnessing the power of collaboration and collective action. She is Development Director for the Regenerative Viticulture Foundation, Sustainability Advisor and Ambassador for WineGB, and was a founding Trustee of the Sustainable Wine Roundtable.
Fran Draper, Sustainability Consultant and Carbon Literate Facilitator
Fran has been in the drinks industry for over 20 years, working client and agency side, across commercial and marketing roles and now runs her own consultancy business. A Chartered Marketer, Fran holds all three CIM Diplomas including one in Sustainable Marketing, as well as becoming Carbon Literate Certified. She has developed the first accredited Carbon Literate course for the wine industry, Drink Net Zero, in order to share her knowledge and help businesses embed sustainability in their organisation.
Rosie Davenport, Sustainability Consultant, Impact Focus
With 25 years’ experience in the drinks industry, Rosie is the go-to for sustainability and communications advice.
In 2020, she founded Impact Focus, a specialist agency supporting companies on sustainability strategy and how to tell their story.
A certified Sustainability Professional and graduate of Cambridge University’s Institute for Sustainability Leadership, Rosie is also a B Leader, trained to guide companies through B Corp certification.
Rosie brings a unique combination of technical sustainability knowledge, executive-level communications experience and a 17-year journalism career, including Group Editor of Harpers and Drinks Retailing News.
There will also be panel debates covering the race to net zero, the future direction of sustainability, engaging the supply chain, and the great packaging debate.
